Project Management Tools – Finding What Fits You Best
The tools you have at your disposal can spell success or disaster for your project. However, choosing the best project management tools requires more than just looking at what software or apps are most popular with other companies. Tools are just that – they’re aids to achieving your goals. They are not a means to an end in and of themselves.
You need to put some careful thought into choosing the tools that you and your team will be using.
The Human Element
When it comes to software, whether you’re talking about desktop software or mobile apps, it can be easy to fall into the mindset that the software is what’s responsible for the success of your project. That’s false. It’s not the software. It’s the human element.
No matter what software you decide to use, the team you have in place will still be responsible for putting in the work and creating the results you desire. Software is an aid, not a results generator. Never lose sight of that.
For project managers, that means an educated decision must be made in order to benefit the team and the project as a whole. Look at usability (user-friendliness and ease of use) as a critical, top priority. Ensure that your team will all actually use the technology as their go-to method of collaboration. If a technology is out of step with the current competencies and experience of your team, think twice about an implementation.
